Eitan Schwartz's "What's Up" - the Observatory in Eilat and the Arava - introduces people to the night sky. It's amazing how few people actually pay attention to what is always above their heads.

Eitan will introduce you to the beauty of the night sky, even in well-lit areas, and all that’s required is an unobstructed view of the sky and a group of curious people.

In many locations Eitan can point his telescope to beautiful clusters of stars that resemble celestial fields of diamonds, and his explanations and discussions will entertain visitors of all ages.  The moon and the planets viewed through the eyepiece of the telescope will fascinate you and your guests, and help you realize just how wonderful and beautiful our Universe really is.

"What's Up", the Observatory, can work with small or large groups. For large groups, the live view from the telescope can also be projected on a screen by a special astronomical video camera.

Gary Berlind is a soloist and virtuoso performer on the viola da gamba. Although it looks somewhat similar to the violoncello (cello), the gamba is actually an entirely different kind of instrument, combining many of the features of the 6 string classical guitar with the bowed, expressive qualities of the cello. Between 1500 and 1800 it was one of the most popular musical instruments in Europe, being used both indoors and outdoors for all kinds of musical entertainments.

The music that Gary plays on the gamba is drawn from the vast collections of music that were written for this instrument by composers and perfomers from Italy, France, England and Germany - music from long ago times and far away places.

Because of the gamba's many strings, its wide musical range permits it to play melodies and harmonies at the same time. In the hands of a skilled performer the music coming from the gamba often sounds like there are two or more instruments playing at the same time, with the result being a full and rich musical experience that is a delight to both listen to and watch.

Gary and his gamba provide an ideal musical background for dinner parties, cocktail hours, and any kind of special event that requires a musical atmosphere that is lively, interesting, and elegant. In addition, special demonstration and recital programs can be given to round out an evening's schedule of entertainment.

The humor of the human condition is captured in every caricature produced by Eilat’s Ahron Ben Asher. A long-time resident of Israel's southern-most resort city, Ahron has been a fixture on the local art scene in Eilat for more than 20 years, and generations of visitors from near and far keep returning to have their faces and personalities captured by this unique visual artist.

But as exciting as it is to have one’s caricature drawn by Ahron, it is similarly rewarding to just watch Ahron, the artist, in action. A line here, a squiggle there, and suddenly it becomes clear how the sitting subject is seen by others, quite different than the face viewed every morning in the bathroom mirror. At the same time, the working mind of the artist, in action, is revealed within the space of a few minutes for all to enjoy.

Ahron Ben Asher’s work has extended beyond caricature to his serious art, on exhibit in many venues throughout Eilat, even though his serious art perpetuates his same vein of humor, constantly peeking out from behind the colors and shapes drawn on canvas and other media. For example, his "Legs" series - drawn on 45 public utility boxes throughout Eilat and commissioned by the Eilat Municipality - is a continual reminder to his fellow Eilatis that Ben Asher lives and works here. Eilat would not be the same without him.
